1ST EDITION PAIR OF 'TONGUE' CHAIRS BY ARNE JACOBSEN FOR FRITZ HANSEN, 1955
1ST EDITION PAIR OF 'TONGUE' CHAIRS BY ARNE JACOBSEN FOR FRITZ HANSEN, 1955
A remarkable find right here: two rare ‘Tongue’ chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1955 for the Munkegaard school. This model is hard to find and this particular pair is among the first Fritz Hansen productions from the 1950s which makes them very special. It was originally bought as a set together with a rare ‘Egg’ table and one ‘Ant’ chair which are also available. They remain in a very good original condition with a lovely patina thanks to age and use. Solid back supports.
The Tongue from 1955 is Arne Jacobsen’s smallest chair and also has the most pared-down silhouette. The design was part of Arne Jacobsen’s holistic vision for the Munkegaard School in 1957, and a few years later it was included in his acclaimed design of the SAS Royal Hotel.
